Case Studies

Trident has successfully worked with thousands of companies throughout the UK. Here are a few examples of projects we have worked on.

The Problem
Trident Surveying was contacted by the Health and Safety Manager of a large hotel chain who was a little concerned about his employer’s compliance with the current asbestos regulations (Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012).

He was aware of several areas where asbestos was suspected, but not confirmed within one of the chain's hotels, and was concerned about the condition of the materials and the risk of exposure to staff and members of the public along with the implications of not adequately dealing with such an important issue.

The Solution
Through consultation with Trident Surveying and the Health and Safety manager we promptly arranged a site meeting and performed a discreet walk around the hotel with the manager, highlighting any areas of immediate concern including a high traffic corridor with damaged ceiling tiles. We were able to take an immediate sample on the site visit to be able confirm the presence of asbestos within the ceiling tiles. Using our industry contacts we were in a position to get the results back from laboratory quickly and the client had a licensed asbestos removal contractor on site within 24 hours to deal with the areas identified. This allowed the hotel to continue with the smooth running of its business with minimal disturbance to its staff and customers.

We advised the Health and Safety Manager that to comply with the current asbestos regulations we recommended an Asbestos Management Survey initially at this site and then all premises which would be the first stage of implementing the Asbestos Management Plan.

Upon instruction to proceed with the management survey we promptly arranged a convenient time with the manager of the initial hotel to arrange a site visit to go through Health and Safety issues and undertake the asbestos inspection. Due to the sensitive nature of asbestos we assured the client of the utmost discretion at all times as far as customers and staff were concerned.

The Results
The client received the full report within 5 working days and was able to comply with their duty to comply with current asbestos regulations.

Home Owner

The Problem
Trident was contacted by a private client after being recommended by an asbestos removal contractor. The client had recently purchased the property with his partner and with some refurbishment works it was to be the dream family home in the ideal location where they could see themselves living for many years.

Unfortunately the dream hit a speed bump once the refurbishment works began on the property as the electrical contractor uncovered a suspect material fixed to the joists behind the plasterboard in one of the project areas. The contractor suspected that this material could be asbestos and after informing the home owner they decided to stop all work and vacate the property until they were able to confirm what this suspect material was and where else it could be.

The Solution
Once Trident were contacted by the homeowner we were able to recommend an asbestos refurbishment survey and were able to get two surveyors out to the site at short notice to undertake the survey. On completion of the survey our surveyors were able to advise the homeowner on our findings and recommend any further steps and precautions that were necessary. We were able to turn the report around within 48 hours and provide detailed information in this report on the locations and types of asbestos containing materials within the property.

The report was provided in both electronic and hard copy formats and was distributed to number of licensed asbestos removal contractors allowing the client to appoint the best supplier for their needs.

The Results
Due to the professional and friendly approach by our team our clients minds were put at ease and we left them re-assured that that such a serious issue could be overcome practically, dispelling any myths and letting them proceed with their dream home.

Demolition Contractor

The Problem
Trident was contacted by one of the UK's leading demolition contractors who were beginning a project for a car manufacturer who are known globally for their brand of vehicles. Our client was due to demolish some substantial sized buildings for them.

The issue in this case was that although an asbestos refurbishment / demolition survey had been carried out previously the demolition contractor did not feel confident that all instances of asbestos had been identified within these buildings. To top this off the reports were not easy to understand or follow. Being one of the UK's largest demolition contractors who are regularly contracted by global organisations they pride themselves on the service they provide and also take Health and Safety issues such as asbestos very seriously.

As there is with many large projects there was a time constraint on this one too. Normally it would be take a considerable period of time to get a contractor out to assess the site, conduct the refurbishment / demolition survey and then to provide a fully completed and detailed report. However this was not the case with this project.

The Solution
From the day the enquiry was initially received Trident were able to get a surveyor out to assess the site and then to arrange for a team of surveyors to be on the site within five days and able to provide the user friendly report within a total of ten days.

The Result
Another satisfied Trident client! Both the demolition contractor and the car manufacturer were left more than impressed.
